Discover: Yes Chef! Radio

The finest House, Disco and Techno, direct from Japan.

Transmitting from Tokyo, Yes Chef! Radio is a weekly dose of red hot Disco, House, Techno and all things dace music. Sharing their favourite new releases, stone cold classics and rare vinyl gems from Japan’s incredible record stores, the collective, led by Joe O and Good Company Broadcast Group, have channelled their newfound buzz playing monthly shows at clubs across the Japanese capital into their own showcase, now available on Keakie.

From Disco heaters to cool, jazzy House, via some thrilling edits, the show, with host duties rotating between Joe and Good Company, leaves no stone unturned in exploring the groove. We spoke to Yes Chef! about the new show, how the collective came to be and putting smiles on people’s faces.

As with our parties, we want to make sure people have fun, but with quality tunes.
— Yes Chef!

What is the premise of Yes Chef! Radio?

YC: Yes Chef! Radio is a weekly one hour mix show, with alternate weeks hosted by Joe O and GCBG. It’s a reflection of what we’re playing in clubs week to week here in Tokyo. Lots of House, Disco and occasionally some Techno if we’re feeling that way.

How did the idea of the show come about?

YC: We found ourselves DJing together a fair bit a few years ago and decided to make a monthly party under the name ‘Yes Chef!’. We badged it up with a logo (in the Japanese mascot tradition) and started a monthly residency at the legendary nightclub Oath in Shibuya. Putting out regular mixes seemed like a fun next step. Originally we thought a monthly show made sense as we both have full time jobs, but then we thought, “screw it, let’s go for once a week and try and build something that can become a regular part of people’s week.”

What do you want listeners to take from Yes Chef! Radio?

YC: As with our parties, we want to make sure people have fun, but with quality tunes. Whether it’s with new releases or old gems, hopefully we’re putting a smile on your face.

When is the ideal time for listeners to check out the show?

YC: We release every Friday afternoon at 4pm JST, just in time to soundtrack the end of your work day and get ready for the weekend.

What's your favourite Keakie show that isn't yours?

YC: Unreal Radio by Real Lies. We like how their show mixes all types of House, Techno and Bass with found audio. There aren't many other shows like it.

Describe Yes Chef! Radio in three words.

YC: Fun, fresh and tasty.
