We speak to the host of the show curating R&B vibes from the UK and beyond.

The morning commute, or the journey home after a night out, needs the perfect soundtrack to capture the emotion and restore the feeling of warming up or cooling down. Luckily, the good people over at AMPY FM (AMPY For Music) are on hand to deliver.

Active as a brand since 2019, selling clothing and accessories and dabbling in music curation, AMPY FM has reimagined itself as a long-form offering, evolving from its origins as a playlist on Spotify to a fully fledged mix series, now available to stream on Keakie.

Curated for music lovers, the show meanders between Contemporary R&B, Hip Hop and Future Bounce, an equation that equates to chill vibrations. The aim is to restore the joy of discovering tracks from years back that you may have missed, especially in the conveyor belt-like climate of music in the present day.

We talked to show host Amps about his creation, finding old new music and mixing Drill with Neo-Soul.

There wasn’t a vibe for the route back home from the party or the morning commute. I wanted to fill that gap.

What is the premise of your show?

Amps: AMPY FM brings music lovers together. It's for people who miss album credits and watch studio footage on YouTube. A space where you can find forgotten bangers, sleeper picks and your new favourite song. I want listeners to hear something familiar in a different way like, "how did he mix Headie One with Dwele?!"

How did the idea for AMPY FM come about?

A: Whenever I had someone in my car they'd ask me what song was playing (or Shazam it). I realised it wasn't just me that liked to hear something different. There wasn't a vibe for the route back home from the party or the morning commute. I wanted to fill that gap.

What do you want listeners to take from your show?

A: Just because a song isn't ‘new’ anymore doesn't mean it slaps any less. At the moment we're getting new music every week and there are some great songs that are getting lost in the mix - that's where AMPY comes in.

When is the ideal time for listeners to check out your show?

A: 24 hours on repeat tbh.

Describe your show in three words.

A: Whew. Swear. Naaaah.

Listen to AMPY FM now on Keakie.
